The comprehensive benefits of energy saving and loss reduction for flexible substation in active distribution network are related to application and promotion prospect of this technology. To this end, the working principle of power electronic transformers in flexible substations is analyzed, and the functions of flexible substations are clarified according to their composition. The characteristics of loss reduction and energy conservation for flexible substation are defined. The resulting benefits are identified and the corresponding benefit calculation method is determined. Taking a 10kV flexible substation as an example, the comprehensive benefit of energy saving and loss reduction in distribution network is calculated according to the actual configuration, and compared with the conventional substation with the same boundary conditions, the effectiveness advantage of flexible substation in energy saving and loss reduction is demonstrated. It also provides calculation methods and reference basis for energy saving and loss reduction analysis of similar projects in the future.
