In recent years, cable faults increases year by year with the widespread use of power cable lines, among which, cable joint defects become one of the most important factors affecting the safe and stable operation of transmission cables. Recently, a switch protection work of the 110kV cable line 131 tripped, resulting in power cables change and its three T-connection lines power failure. After the troubleshooting the author found that there are defects in the intermediate of No. 1 connector well cable. In this paper, a detailed introduction about this accident of cable equipment is made and the cause is analyzed in-depth. The study found that there are some problems in the design and installation of the cable joint weld joint. Due to many this type of cable lines run in power grid, and at the same time to avoid such equipment defects in new project, the corresponding suggestions based on the cause analysis and the accident situation was put forward, which is beneficial to eliminate safety hazards in time and ensure the stable operation of the cable lines.
