Welcome

It is always my great, great pleasure to welcome you to the Clearwater Clean Energy Conference. We are truly honored to have you participate in the 44th International Technical Conference on Clean Energy. We are pleased to welcome many of you who have travelled far to be with us. There are representatives from 12 countries at the conference: Australia, Canada, China, Germany, Japan, Korea, The Netherlands, Poland, Sweden, Thailand, United Kingdom and USA Since our last meeting we've lost an invaluable colleague who was instrumental in moving our conference forward and sharing his insights on where we need to go in the future. Prof. Janos M. Beer, Professor Emeritus of Massachussets Institute of Technology, lead an incredible life where he flourished in humanitarianism, academia, music, and energy. We are asking all of the students to sit in on this tribute to give them some insight as to where life may take you academically and personally. There are many lessons to be learned from Janos. Our colleague, Laura Keefe Murphy, has prepared the tribute contained in these Proceedings and it is something that should be read by all. We're honoring him with a special session on Tuesday morning where some of his colleagues will present his many accomplishments. Janos was an incredible human being who lived a life that you would think would only happens in novels.
