Innovative treatments of intra- and extra-cellular bacteria using silver nanoparticles

AgNPs are emerging as antimicrobial agents, while little is known about their antibacterial properties against intracellular bacteria, which are problematic as they may lead to chronic and recurrent infections. Our studies show that AgNPs may be used alone or in comination with antibiotics to kill extra-and intracellular bacteria with limited toxicity towards host cells (i.e., osteobalst cells).
