These results demonstrate a PGS/PCL graft can be implanted in a large animal model, withstand the loads of an arteriovenous configuration, and induce early remodeling by smooth muscle cells and fibroblast-type cells. We surmise the intimal hyperplasia and secondary thrombus was aggravated by the suboptimal hemodynamics and stress distributions created when a short, linear graft is connected between an artery and vein. Better patency may be achieved with longer, curved grafts, which is the focus of our current investigation.
