We have demonstrated a mesh electronics probe design that includes a user-friendly plug-and-play I/O region. The design is compatible with syringe-injection, retains the critical properties of mesh electronics necessary for seamless 3D interfacing in vivo, and the interfacing time is constant regardless of channel count as long as a single ZIF connector is used. Significantly, the PCB interface is compatible with clinical sterilization procedures, thus presenting new opportunities for investigations in humans. Furthermore, the reliable interface with 3 Ω contact resistance has enabled the use of NW-FET detectors for in vivo chronic recording. About a thousand times smaller than conventional recording electrodes, these NW-FET detectors offer the possibility to expand the range and class of signals that can be measured in vivo.
