An Efficient Approach to Compensate Control Valve Stiction

Automatic control system is very common in modern industrial plants. The performance of the control loop largely depends on the control valve. Stiction is a commonly found problem in control valve. It produces oscillation in process output and decreases the longevity of the control valve. Oscillatory responses of the control loops due to valve stiction can disturb process operation, degrade product quality and decrease plant profitability. So, it is important to provide an efficient technique to minimize the detrimental effects of a sticky control valve before it can be sent for maintenance. In this research work, a stiction compensation technique of control valve is developed by adding an extra pulse with detuned controller action for a certain period of time. The performance of the proposed compensator is analyzed and compared with other stiction compensators available in the literature.
