This paper proposes a discrete linear phase based moving average filter (DLPMAF) control with frequency locked loop (FLL) for solar photovoltaic (PV) array tied to a single phase utility grid. The DLPMAF acts as an ideal low pass filter and its cut off frequency, is used by adjusting its window length. The potential of Park's transformation, DLPMAF and FLL are utilized collectively to extract the active power component of nonlinear load connected at PCC (Point of Common Coupling). The proposed system increases the usage of its voltage source converter (VSC). It has the potential of mitigating the harmonics current, improving the DPF (Displacement Power Factor), and thus, reduces reactive power burden on the grid during day time as well as during night when the PV array power generation is not available. Besides, feeding the active power into the utility grid, the proposed control algorithm improves the dynamic response both during irradiance change and dynamics in loads. The total harmonics distortion (THD) of utility current is improved to compliance the limits of the IEEE-519 standard.
