Performance evaluation of PV array under dynamic hard shading conditions

The performance of a PV module array is highly affected by shading variations. The deterioration is further aggravated if the shading is hard in nature. This paper analyses the performance of a 6 × 6 PV array installation under dynamic hard shading conditions by subjecting it to modelled shades of definite shapes (sinusoidal, triangular & exponential). An approach has been developed using Matlab-Simulink platform and interpolation to acknowledge the fact that at a specific instant under dynamic conditions any percentage of an individual PV module in an array could be part shaded and part unshaded. In such cases consequent effects need to be taken into consideration. A case study has been performed to approximate the reduction in power output during a day due to shading at 29.9408380 N, 76.8191648 E using the developed MATLAB tool.
