Smart Vehicle System for Road Safety During Foggy Weather

Today Road safety is a major area of concern. Bad weather conditions are one of the major reasons behind the rising road accidents. During foggy weather the visibility on the road is less that results in accidents. The technology has become an integral part of our day to day life. The technology can be used to improve the road safety too. Using technologies like smart vehicle can help to improve the driving and in turn reduce the road accidents. People do not follow the speed rules during bad weather. There is a need to design a automated system that will help driver to monitor its speed during less visibility. The system will be smart enough to alert the driver during bad weather conditions. For this, vehicles could be embedded with smart sensor technology. This study proposes a Vehicle Ad hoc Networks (VANET) based smart vehicle system that uses optical sensor to send visual and audible alarms and alert the driver to control the speed of vehicle in less visibility. It will store the location where the visibility is less with a threshold value so that it can also warn other vehicles. For this, Road side units (RSU) and On board units (OBU) will be used to store the climatic information.
