Realization of Microstrip Patch Antenna for LTE Application Using Different Substrates

compact nature of the microstrip structure gives the flexibility for the design of antennas which takes less space, cost and provides good performance. The proposed paper presents the design of microstrip patch antenna for the application of Long Term Evolution(LTE)which operates at 2.4GHz. The structure is designed based on the mathematical relations between the microstrip parameters such as Length(L), Width(W),Height(h) with the Frequency, impedance, Gain, VSWR, and the Return Loss of the antenna. Two microstrip patch antennas are designed for the same operating frequency with different substrates such as FR4 Glass epoxy and RT Duroid with Dielectric constasnts (εr)4.4 and 2.2 respectively. The effect of dielectric substrate and other parameters on the performance of the microstrip patch antenna is discussed and analyzed with the obtained results. The antenna parameters are analyzed by varying the thickness of the substrate and by providing Inset Feed. The designed antenna with FR4 substrate gives a gain of 2.04dBi, VSWR≤ 1.7, S11 = ?12dB and with RT Duroid gain is of 4.6 dBi, VSWR ≤ 1.9, S11 = ?10dB. This shows the designed antenna is useful for LTE applications.
