Aiming at the shortcomings of poor compatibility and inconvenient expansion of the current monitoring system for Urban Gas Safety, a monitoring system has been designed and built which adopts the programmable logic controller (PLC) as the core of the sub-stations, and the computer (PC) as the core of the main station for monitoring the Urban Gas Safety. At the same time, the special programming software and configuration software are put into used. The design of hardware and software, the settings and functions of the configuration software for monitoring and controlling are emphatically introduced. the debugging for the system is successful. The results show that the system overcomes the disadvantages of poor compatibility and inconvenient expansion in the current monitoring system, and possesses some advantages such as short development cycle, flexible configuration, easy-using, higher reliability and less investment. So it has certain merit of theory and application.
