RISK ASSESSMENT FOR MEDICAL EQUIPMENT IN A SHARED SERVICES PROGRAM

A critical process for healthcare technology management (HTM) programs is risk assessment of medical equipment managed by the HTM program. This process is required for hospital accreditation by the Joint Commission and other accrediting organizations. It is also essential for promoting patient safety, risk management, and cost-effective HTM program operations. HSS Inc., based in Denver, Colorado, has been providing HTM services since 1975 to a number of hospitals and numerous other healthcare organizations. To continue to improve its risk assessment process for medical equipment, HSS set up an internship program. This paper describes the risk assessment work that the intern accomplished in 2016. This work is ongoing and should not be considered complete.
