An approach for context sensitive product extensions services

The upcoming trend for mass-customisation and higher customer expectations are forcing industries on the one hand to shorten their product release cycles, and on the other hand to create products which are self-adapting to the need of the customers. Context sensitivity is a promising approach to achieve a high self-adaptability of such products, extended by services. The approach presented in this work addresses both challenges. First it provides a short overview of a novel engineering platform for rapid collaborative design of products-services and their production processes; and then it presents an approach of a generic service-oriented context sensitive product extension service, easily configurable and deployable through engineering tools running on the introduced engineering platform. Finally, it presents an application, applied and tested in an industrial environment in collaboration with a company in real life scenarios.
