This paper proposes an enhanced adaptive control cell range expansion (CRE) technique in heterogeneous networks to increase the system capacity and improve the user throughput. The enhanced adaptive control CRE technique is operated by both the user equipment (UE) connection ratio to pico cells in the macro cell and the received SINR for UEs. The features of the proposed CRE technique are described through comparisons with those of conventional CRE. System-level computer simulation results such as the average user throughput and 5-percentile user throughput are provided.
