To investigate the effect of rubber-modification on fatigue strength under combined stress conditions, fatigue tests were conducted for adhesively bonded butt and scarf joints bonded with the rubber-modified and unmodified epoxy adhesives. Fatigue strengths for these joints with the rubber modified adhesive were compared with those with unmodified adhesive on S-N diagrams. Furthermore, degradation behavior in the adhesive layer was also measured from the displacement of adhesive layer in the fatigue process. Major results obtained are summarized as follows: (1) The rubber modification reduces the normal and shear strengths of the scarf joints irrespective of scarf angle under static loading. Contrary to the static strength, endurance limits of the rubber modified adhesives are nearly equal or greater than that of unmodified adhesives.
