Compatibility and interoperability in field device integration — A view on EDDL, FDT and FDI

摘要

Compatibility and interoperability of device drivers and host systems are major challenges in field device integration. The recently released Field Device Integration (FDI) technology promises to master these challenges. This paper discusses requirements and concepts to achieve compatibility and interoperability. Then it compares the technologies EDDL, FDT and FDI regarding these requirements and proposes an approach to combine the different concepts.
