摘要

Mode I failure of bonded composite materials has been investigated. It has been shown in the current work that using a woven composite adherend for adhesive bond- ing may significantly reduce the apparent fracture resistance of the joint. Whilst the initiation fracture energy (calculated from the NL point) is almost independent of the fibre architecture, once a crack has initiated, the steady-state propagation toughness for a joint manufactured using a 5-harness woven composite may be as little as half that obtained for the same joint manufactured using uni-directional composite material.
