The experimental campaign in the HIEST test facility produced 10 shots of data and one engine unstart with the performance of the engine closely matching that predicted in previous studies. The fueling methodology used in the tests lead to excess fuel injection and strong combustion in the combustor entrance was found to be a major limiting factor in achieving desired test conditions as well as engine unstart for this engine. CFD techniques employed were able to reconstruct the flowfield with good accuracy, although there was some deviation present in high Φ cases, probably due to the chemistry model over predicting heat release.
