Evaluation des coûts financiers des collisions de la route en Algérie cas de la wilaya de Béjaïa

The road safety situation in Algeria is critical. Each year, more than 3 000 people are killed and nearly 40 000 injured. Collisions have health consequences, which are economically important. The objective of this paper is to assess the financial costs of road crashes in the wilaya of Béjaïa, Algeria. The cost to insurance companies (property damage and casualties) is surveyed among insurance agencies, and health sector expenditures (hospital spending on collision victims) are calculated using data from Khellil Amrane hospital. Also quantified are the productivity loss due to collisions and the cost of funerals. The results of this survey provide the average cost of injury and fatality, as well as the average cost of property damage for traffic collisions in the wilaya of Béjaïa. This cost quantification may be useful to justify enhanced road safety policies to reduce the number of road crashes and their devastating consequences.
