Bicycle and rail transit are considered to be typical modes in a green transportation system. The combination of these two traffic modes could provide an integrated, green, and seamless public transit service. In this paper, factors such as individual characteristics and land use attributes were defined as independent variables. Based on the data collected in Nanjing, a Binary Logit Model and Multiple Regression Model were applied to analyze how those factors influenced people's usage of public bicycles. Results showed that commuters with a short travel distance between home and rail transit are the primary users of public bicycle systems. Public bicycles are more attractive in high income residences with previous experience of bicycle thefts. Reducing public bicycle rental fees and setting rental points properly can effectively enhance attraction to public bicycle systems. A few suggestions were presented including reducing rental fees, enhancing locking mechanisms and setting docking stations properly.
