THE EFFECT OF MASS OF HIGH-SPEED RAILWAY VEHICLE AND ITS DISTRIBUTION ON VEHICLE DYNAMICS PERFORMANCE

Considering the axle-load of high-speed trains, the factors of external environment and vehicle performances are discussed for vehicle mass design. The relationship between vehicle mass and performances is brought into focus in this paper. Based on the operating values of sprung mass, mass between primary suspension and secondary suspension and unsprung mass of high-speed EMU in China, a dynamics model is built by multi-body dynamics simulation software SIMPACK and 25 simulation conditions of vehicle mass are calculated by orthogonal design method. Range analysis and factors' interaction analysis are used to process the simulation data. The influences of vehicle mass and its distribution on wheel/rail dynamic forces, vehicle stability, safety and riding comfort are analyzed. The results show that sprung mass affects evidently vehicle stability and lateral riding quality while wheel/rail dynamic forces and running safety are sensitive to mass between primary suspension and secondary suspension and unsprung mass. Two choices of vehicle mass match are attained. Taking the engineering realization of vehicle mass design into account, sprung mass can be affected easily by locations of heavy and bulky equipments and its adjustable range is wide. The changeable range of sprung mass in the 1st choice is smaller than in the 2nd choice. In order to achieve excellent vehicle dynamics performance, the 2rd choice should be chosen in the vehicle mass design.
