Social Aspects of Paratransit Policy Making: Analysis of Paratransit Service Supply and Drivers’ Life Satisfaction

Focusing on paratransit policy making from social aspects, this study deals with therelationship of paratransit service supply and drivers’ life satisfaction. First, the multipleimputation method is applied to correct the bias caused by variables with missing values inthe dataset, and then multiple unbiased datasets are obtained. Second, a structural equationmodel is used to clarify the cause-effect relationships of paratransit service supply anddrivers’ life satisfaction based on multiple unbiased datasets in terms of social aspects. Third,the combined estimation results generally confirm the assumed cause-effect structure among“individual characteristics”, “paratransit operation”, “job choice reason” and “paratransitdrivers’ life satisfaction”. Especially, “paratransit operation” most contributes “lifesatisfaction”, and then obviously followed by “individual characteristics” and “job choicereasons” with similar magnitudes. Finally, this study infers there are no “one size fits all”policies that are applicable to every driver. Policies focusing on different types of paratransitdrivers from social aspects are provided to contribute the paratransit-adaptive publictransportation system in developing countries.
