In column and wall shaped ground improvements by deep-mixing method, tension stress could be caused by external forces. Therefore tension behaviour of cement-treated soils becomes a predominant factor in the design procedure of the column and wall shaped ground improvements. This paper presents the results of the triaxial tension test of a cement-treated soil which is conducted to investigate the tension behaviour of cement-treated soil under the condition of applying effective confining pressures. The stress-strain relationships obtained from the triaxial tension tests indicate that the tension stress-strain relationship of the cement-treated soil is almost linear before a peak stress state. Moreover, the experimental result provides the failure criterion of the cement-treated soil in tension and low compression stress regions.
