Proposal on the affordable and sustainable water supply approaches in disaster response by application of innovative water flocculant: A case study of a community based water supply business model in rural areas of Tanzania

In disaster situations, International Red Cross provides water supply services by the standardized water purification units and kits. After the termination of relief activities, such water treatment units are handed over to the Red Cross Society in the disaster affected country. Evaluation reports of the Red Cross disaster relief operations point out various challenges caused by the use of sophisticated water treatment units especially ensuring sustainability of the equipment and its services. Therefore, through the case study of the community water business in Tanzania, this study proposes an application of the water supply business model for water supply in disaster response and recovery programs.
