This paper presents a compact and cost effective monopole Ultra Wide Band (UWB) antenna design for wireless communication systems being developed currently. The proposed antenna design has operating frequencies between 3.1GHz to 10.6GHz, which is being used for modern communication systems. The design has been tested and fabricated on 4.3 permittivity Forgotten Realms 4 (FR-4) substrate with a thickness of h=1.6 mm having trapezoidal shaped ground plane. Also splits rings are utilized in the regular 8-sided polygon to get better results. The proposed antenna with compact size of 22×32×1.6 mm3 is tested and results are measured which shows close agreement with the simulated results. In overall UWB band antenna has steady radiation characteristics.
