OBSERVING THE URBAN SPACE: A PROTOCOL TO ANALYSE STREET FURNITURE IN PUBLIC SQUARES

In wider research, in progress, a study was performed, using an Ergonomic approach, to understand therelationship between street furniture and its users and also the importance of its existence in a built spacenamed “plaza”. This paper presents the first phase of an analysis focusing in physical aspects of somepublic plazas, where an observation protocol was developed. This tool was used in field research, and itsresults validate its utility in research in environmental design area.
