A new type of GeO/sub 2//SiO/sub 2/ NZ-DSF with an attenuation loss of 0.174 dB/km, a dispersion slope of /spl sim/0.06 ps/nm/sup 2//km and an Aeff of /spl sim/70 /spl mu/m/sup 2/ at 1.55 /spl mu/m have successfully been developed. Holey fiber designs offering reduced dispersion slopes for similar Aeffs are also reported.
