THE IMPACT OF SUPPLY NETWORK RELATIONSHIPS ON FIRM INNOVATION IN THE ELECTRONICS INDUSTRY

In this study, we examine the structural characteristics of supply chains as networks andinvestigate how supply network structure impacts firm innovation. Specifically, we investigatethe relationship between three supply network characteristics (supply networkinterconnectedness, supply network accessibility, and supply network partner innovativeness)and a firm’s innovation output. Our findings suggest direct benefits arising from supply networkaccessibility and partner innovativeness towards a firm’s innovation output. The findings alsohighlight that firms that are part of interconnected supply networks can enhance their innovationoutput. This study contributes to the stream of research recognizing supply networks as a sourceof innovation.
