Effect of liquid fuels additive, such as ethanol and gasoline, on detonation wave of an acetylene-oxygen mixture was studied. For the experiments, a detonation tube of 72mm in a diameter and 752mm in a length was used. And the ethanol and gasoline were injected by a commercial GDI (gasoline direct injection) injector. As a result, the addition of liquid fuel made a detonation initiation difficult due to absorption of heat from the fuel droplets by vaporization. Thus, the pre-heating or pre-vaporizing process is required for liquid fuel PDE. In addition, exhausted flame images also proved that the strong detonation wave has strong shock with closely following bright flame. Also, the slow exploded flame was observed when the liquid fuel was added at the higher equivalence ratio.
