Semantic-Syntactic Description of Chinese Psycho-verb Xiang (想)

摘要

This paper summarizes eight parallel semantic senses of the Chinese psycho-verb 想[Xiang], i.e. 想象[xiangxiang](imagine),关注[guanzhu] (be concerned about),想念 [xiangnian](miss), 回想[huixiang](recall), 思考 [sikao](ponder), 认为[renwei](suppose), 打算 [dasuan](intend) and 希望 [xiwang](wish), with the synonym set of each sense listed. Precise semantic-syntactic analysis and description of the verb are further conducted on the basis of various corpora. A semantic derivation and distribution of the verb's psychological features is also charted.
