The paper proposes an up to date design and simulation of a grid connected photovoltaic system using Simulink. A Photovoltaic (PV) cell, a DC/DC boost converter and a DC/AC inverter constitutes the system. The internal mechanism of solar cell with diagram & approximation of PV cell are described. The PV cell model is simple, precise, and takes external temperature as well as solar radiation into consideration. It also analyzes different types of maximum power point tracking (MPPT) methods with algorithm. To track the maximum power of PV cell, the algorithm conjoined in a DC/DC converter is used. Finally, by using DC/AC inverter, the output voltage of DC/DC converter is regulated and synchronized with the grid. Simulation results show that the proposed model can effectively realize the actual physical characteristics of a grid-connected PV system by matching the phase of grid voltage to generated photovoltaic current.
