OAO 'NPO ENERGOMASH named after ACADEMICIAN V. GLUSHKO' IS A LEADING RUSSIAN COMPANY IN THE FIELD OF DEVELOPMENT AND PRODUCTION OF LIQUID PROPELLANTS ROCKET ENGINES. EXPERIENCE AND PROSPECTS
The scientific and industrial corporation of power mechanical engineering named afteracademician V. Glushko ("NPO Energomash"), an open-type joint stock company, is a leading companyin the world involved in development and production of powerful liquid propellants rocker engines(LPRE) for space launch vehicles (LV), one of the leaders of world market of the science intensive andadvanced technology products. History of the company goes back to May 15, 1929. For the past yearsabout 60 LPREs have been developed which were produced by series, were used and are used withinspace launch vehicles. For today, about 40% of the launches of the space vehicles in the world areperformed using LPREs of NPO Energomash development and production. For the last 25 years NPO Energomash has developed a number of unified LOX-kerosene LPREsof a new generation having unique energetic and operation characteristics. LPREs of this generation witha wide range of thrust regulation deliver thrust of 60 tf to greater than 800 tf and they can meet therequirements of an advanced rocket vehicle of various lifting capacity. Unification of technologicalsolutions being used in NPO Energomash LOX-kerosene engines allows a new engine be developed forany advanced rocket vehicles with high quality and within short period of time using small quantity ofdevelopment engines. At the same time NPO Energomash is carrying out advanced work to develop modern LPREswith thrust of greater than 1000 tf, LPRE using oxygen-methane propellant components, and dual-modetri-propellant engines for advanced reusable launch vehicles, to create laser rocket propellants ignitionsystem, as well as to search new propellant components and additives to the existing propellantcomponents which substantially improve the LPREs energy characteristics. In this paper the history of the company is described, the situation concerning the developmentand production of sustaining LOX-kerosene engines RD171M for Zenit LV, RD-180 for Atlas LV, andRD191 for modern Russian Angara LV is presented, the issues relating to perspectives of development ofboth Russian cosmonautics and world astronautics in terms of existing LPREs fleet modernization aretouched upon. Data on NPO Energomash's advanced work to develop LPRE, rocket propellant researchand etc., is presented.
