Magnetic field intensity can be used for monitoring traffic flow by using variability over thismagnetic field that vehicles cause. Because vehicles consist of ferro-magnetic materials.These very small size magnetic field changes could be sensed by GMR sensors which is oneof the remarkable discoveries of recent years . In this work, an embedded system wasdesigned to obtain data that reflect the characteristics of movement of vehicles on thehighways by using GMR sensors. In this system, weak electrical signals obtained from GMRsensors must be amplified and filtered enough to be digitized and then processed. So thatnecessary traffic datas are produced by processing these signals with algorithms running on amicrocontroller. This system can be used to produce traffic data reflecting macroscopicproperties of traffic flows.
