The 3D visualization design technology has been maturely applied in such industries as the aviation and machine-building,while rather lag in technology of the industry of hydraulic and hydropower engineering design,still in its initial stage.This article introduces the basic acknowledge of CATIA 3D design platform researched by the French Company Dassault Systems and its powerful aided design function,and expounds the advantages of 3D collaborative design in aspects of improving the design efficiency and product quality of the Company,shortening the design phase as lowering the cost,prolonging the life circle of hydroelectric design industry,and perfecting the image of hydroelectric design company.This article concludes the key technologies as geological modeling,template design,frame design and 3D collaborative design undertaken by applying the tool as CATIA,fundamentally confirms the work pattern for hydraulic and hydropower engineering 3D design application,to construct its basis for the practical application of CATIA platform in hydraulic and hydropower engineering.This article finally gives the initial results via applying this technology into the hydraulic and hydropower engineering design work,combining with the engineering case of Guxian Project at the Middle Reach of Yellow River,reveals the results as the 3D reservoirregion geological model and building model,automatically updating after changing the program set by the CATIA platform,and the 2D layout plan generated by 3D model,and makes clear the work pattern for hydraulic and hydropower engineering 3D design and the results' usability.
