Light weight refractories play an important role in the energy saving and environment protection.In this paper,the preparation,properties of Al2O3 aerogels and Al2O3 porous ceramics are introduced briefly.Both of them are highly porous materials with low density and large pore volume.They exhibit extremely low thermal conductivity,and have aroused tremendous interest because of their relatively high strength,enhanced thermal stability at high temperatures and chemical durability as thermal insulation materials.They are widely applied in new technology industry furnace as excellent high temperature insulation materials.Some research work on fabrication of the materials in LIRR is also introduced.
