A student and staff team from the US Air Force Test Pilot School (USAF TPS) completed a limited parameter identification flight test project on a specially instrumented C-12. The instrumentation requirements were specified by the student team and were incorporated expressly for this flight test project to improve the parameter identification accuracy by minimizing the signal measurement time delay. It can be seen that correct instrumentation has financial benefits by saving significant post-flight data processing time and manpower; therefore, contributing to satisfying cost and scheduling objectives. The parameter identification data analyses were performed using the Matlab routines in the System Identification Programs for Aircraft (SIDPAC) software documented in Aircraft System Identification: Theory and Practice by V. Klein and E.A. Morelli. The C-12 did not have a programmable test input capability so various pilot inputs were designed to best extract the desired aircraft parameters.
