DISTRIBUTION CENTER RELOCATION: A CASE STUDY

This paper describes the case study of a large pharmaceutical distributor which plans to move from its current distribution center (DC) from one location to another within the same metropolitan area. The DC contains approximately 32,000 SKUs and processes about 240,000 lines a week to almost 1,400 customers from pharmacies, hospitals, nursing homes and doctor's offices. In the past these DCs are traditionally moved over a one weekend; however management is considering moving over a longer time period to address concerns over customer service issues, such as, service interruptions, missed delivery, incorrect orders and labor constraints.
