Analysis on regional difference in tourism economy of Jiangsu province, China

Tourism in Jiangsu is very developed, but its regional tourism economy is obviously unbalanced. This paper, based on 13 prefecture-level cities in Jiangsu, analyzes the regional difference in the tourism economy by factor analysis. The result shows that there is obvious difference in regional tourism economy of Jiangsu province. Then the paper further analyzes evolution trend of this difference by standard deviation and coefficient of variation based on total tourism income of 13 cities from 2000 to 2009. It is found that the absolute difference shows an enlarging trend while the relative difference shows small changes with fluctuation, but the basic pattern of spatial difference hasn't radically changed in Jiangsu,. The main factors of tourism economy development include tourism resource, economic development level, location and transportation etc. Therefore, it points out some suggestions to narrow the gap of regional tourism economy and promote the coordinated tourism development in Jiangsu.
