Microstructure evolution of nanostructured 316LVM austenitic stainless steel an nealed under high pressure was examined by X-ray diffraction and transmission electron microscopy. The samples were produced by hydrostatic extrusion at room temperature and then subjected to heat treatment either pressureless or under high hydrostatic pressures. Hy droextrusion processing resulted in nano-scale structure with strong uniaxial texture and con siderable residual stress. Further treatment lead to the simultaneous strain relaxation and grain growth. Effects of temperature and the pressure applied on those effects have been dis cussed.
