A theoretical model that describes the deformation process of a thin-walled metal tube subjected to a pulsed magnetic dynamic load which is stimulated by the seed current in the initial stage of FCG (Flux Compression Generator) is established by analysis of the mutual effect relation of the circuit, magnetic field and the tube. The theoretical, simulation and experimental research on the deformation process of the metal tube is carried out using an excitation seed current of approximately 30 kA, which shows that the results of the theoretical model, simulation and experiment coincide well. This work provides the theoretical basis and experimental support for further research on the high-speed collision, and converting to metal jet of a thin-walled metal tube, in the next phase of the FCG.
