Technical Presentation Title: Inspection and Assessment of US Navy Fleet Moorings

The US Navy has a wide range of floating fleet moorings and employs a rigorous inspection and assessment program for its moorings. This technical presentation will provide an overview of the Navy's fleet moorings in the U.S. and throughout the world. The various types of moorings, including riser, spread, bow-stern, single point, multipoint, and fueling types, and their components and nomenclature will be discussed. The presentation will also include a discussion of the US Navy Fleet Mooring Inspection Standards including: topside buoy and hardware inspection; underwater goo-go inspection of riser and ground leg chains; inspection and measurement of connecting link, swivel and shackle components; anchor condition and stability inspection; zinc inspection and replacement; survey of mooring component layout; and standard photographic and/or video documentation. The various methods of mooring load and storm capacity analysis and in-situ load testing will also be briefly discussed.
