In this paper, a vessel detection method based on gravity enhancement is applied to Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR)images. With this method, the targets pixels are enhanced by the interactions between themselves and their neighbors, and the speckle and background clutter are suppressed after the enhancement as well as the contrasts between targets and clutter have been greatly increased. Then vessels were detected with the K-CFAR detector. East China Sea, off the east coast of Shanghai, China, is chosen as the experiment region. Fine resolution mode and scansar mode PALSAR data are utilized to validate the method.
