The Advanced Land Observing Satellite (ALOS) has been developed to contribute to the fields of mapping, precise land coverage observation, disaster monitoring, and resource surveying. The Panchromatic Remote-sensing Instrument for Stereo Mapping (PRISM), carried on ALOS satellite, has three optical systems for forward, nadir and backward view with 2.5m ground sample distance (GSD). ALOS satellite image has been widely used in regional land use monitoring due to its outstanding performance. Taking Qingzhen City as a case study which is located in the middle of Guizhou Province, this paper discussed the building site change of Qingzhen City from November 2007 to November 2008, based on comprehensive integration application of remote sensing and GIS technology. Results showed that, firstly, human-computer alternating operation had higher accuracy on the basis of automatic classification. Secondly, the total area of building site in 2008 rapid increase and exceeds that in 2007 by a factor of 3.1. The application of 3S technique (remote sensing, global positioning system and geographic information system) in the research of land use survey and land use change can provide precise and quick information for government department and be costsaving.
