The poplar auto-catalytic ethanol lignin was fractionated into Mw<5 000,5 000 ~ 10 000,10 000 ~ 30 000, Mw>30000 four-level fraction by ultrafiltration, then the poplar auto-catalytic ethanol lignin of different relative molecular weight was grafted with acrylamide. The effect of different fractions on retention and filter was studied, at the same time, the structure of reaction product was analyzed through infrared spectrogram (IR). The results showed that the molecular weight of 5000 ~ 10000 poplar auto-catalytic lignin-based retention and drainage aid had better effect, when was added to the manufacturing stage, the paper ash content increased 8.21 percentage points, the filler retention rate increased 44.63 percentage points, and beating degree decreased 5.
