Due to its limitation of taking administrative boundary as standard, the traditional population and economic statistical data cannot satisfy the requirements of analysis precision and depth when studying the relationship between population and geographical environment. Based on the Miyun County population and economic statistical data, this paper studied the spatial distribution of population and economic data using GIS and RS technologies with multi-source data. In this study, some representative impact factors, such as topographic index, land use, road density and residential point density were selected. The effect weights that the impact factors influence on the population spatial distribution were calculated by buffer analysis, overlay analysis and spatial statistical analysis. With the mathematical model, a more intuitive and rich population density diagram, which shows the distribution of population and economy at grid level, was drawn by constructing the population and economic spatial distribution model. The study results show that the highest population density, 160~280 persons per km~2, is at the southwest of Miyun County where the industry, commerce and residential areas are, while the lowest, 16~50 persons per km~2, is at the northwest of Miyun County where Miyun Reservoir and conservation forest are. The major GDP growth of Miyun County is contributed from the secondary and the tertiary industries. The results accord with the statistical data and show that it is feasible to study the spatial distribution of population and economic statistical data using GIS and RS technologies, possible to reflect the detailed distribution of population and economy on the spatial gird level, and able to provide better analysis basis to other related studies.
