WATER BALANCE ANALYSIS BASED ON MODCYCLE MODEL IN TIANJIN

MODCYCLE Model, which is developed recently by the Department of Water Resources in China Institute of Water Resources and Hydropower Research(IWHR), is a semi-distributed Hydrology Model, similarly to SWAT, most parts of which are based on the arithmetic of SWAT. But the developing language and the format of input/output data are different with SWAT. Moreover, MODCYCLE have improved some hydrological processes, such as water detention storage on surface, groundwater process, irrigation management operation, and have provided an automatic mechanism with hierarchy to analyze water balance. In order to verify the practicability and feasibility of MODCYCLE, this paper analyzed the water cycle process in Tianjin as a case. Tianjin, which is the economic centre of Bohai Rim area in China, lies in Hai River Basin, and most parts lie in Huabei Plain. Because of more than 90 percent regions lie in plain with highly human activity, the rainfall-runoff mechanism is less obvious than mountainous region's. This paper used hydrology information between 1997 and 2004 years to establish MODCYCLE Model, and analyzed the water balance processes and structure of Tianjin with considering every stage of water resource, including water providing, using, consuming, storing, and discharging. One hand, this paper tested and verified the practicability and feasibility on region or basin water balance analysis by MODCYCLE, and on the other hand, this paper could provide a reference for using water resources efficiently and water resources comprehensive management in Tianjin.
