In an acid pressure leaching project of a nickel smelter located in a South Pacific country, the floor layout is complex and heavy equipment are supported on platforms of different floors. In addition, the project is located in a high seis mic risk area(with intensity for seismic protection at magnitude eight or 0. 3g). The structural style, column bracing layout and joint form have been determined through a comparison analysis of various options as described in this ar ticle. Moreover, a variety of spatial structure calculation programs have been used for comparison calculation and a nalysis and inspection of elastic and inelastic performance of this structure under normal load, frequent earthquake and rare earthquake. By laying-out multiple beams and steel girder beams,section size of columns has been reduced substantially and the structure stress becomes more reasonable.
