Globalisation, Emergence of International Production Networks and the Increasing Need for Information Services

Globalisation induces the formation of international production networks (IPNs), led by large multinationals. These networks need a vast array of specialised services offered internally as well as by third-party suppliers, leading to the emergence of several business services segments, which opens opportunities for the building of local enterprises. There is then an increasing need to collect, compute and exploit at the maximum speed possible an ever growing amount of information and knowledge. This requires specific skills, specialised departments which can be provided in house or externalised and bought from independent suppliers, locally or offshore.
