In the expressway construction on the coastal marine accumulation plains, thick softsoil layer and long softsoil section are unfavorable because they generally cause bad geologic problems such as subgrade settlement, difference settlement, embankment sidewise slip and collapse, and long settlement period, etc. This article explores risks and hazards of the softsoil subgrade settlement and the embankment jitter with Ningbo-Leqing section of Shenhai Expressway in Zhejiang Province for the case study. First, it identifies risk factors of the softsoil subgrade settlement and the embankment jitter based on the project type; then it classifies the risk probability class by the numerical values simulation and project analogy and distinguishes levels of risk consequences accordingly; finally, it offers an analysis on the softsoil subgrade settlement and the embankment jitter of the concerned expressway by R=P×C grading method on the basis of the numerical simulation results and the risk level matrix. Corresponding counter measures are proposed to help decrease the risk loss of the project.
